How to Stick to Your Physical Rehab Routine Over March Break

By Luc Mahler, Chiropractor

March Break is all about taking a breather—whether you’re traveling, spending time with family, or just kicking back at home. But if you’re in the middle of a plan of care for an injury, hitting pause for a week can slow your progress. The good news? You don’t have to choose between enjoying your break and staying on track. With a little planning and creativity, you can do both!

1. Plan Ahead

If you’re heading out of town, check if your hotel has a gym or a pool. Even if there’s no fancy equipment, all you really need is some open space. Make sure to pack a resistance band, foam roller, or a small therapy ball into your bag so you have what you need to keep moving.

2. Get Creative with Your Routine

No gym? No problem! Bodyweight exercises, chair-based movements, and resistance band workouts can be done just about anywhere, we know how to modify your plan. Stretch in your hotel room, do lunges at a scenic park, or use a sturdy chair for balance exercises—it’s all about making it work with what you’ve got.

3. Set a Daily Check-In Time

March Break can throw off your usual schedule, so set a time each day to squeeze in your rehab exercises. Whether it’s first thing in the morning before heading out or in the evening while unwinding, a little structure helps you stay consistent. Show us your calendar, and we can help you prioritize your exercises.

4. Make It Fun

Rehab doesn’t have to feel like a chore. Get the family involved—turn stretching into a game, challenge yourself to fit in a few extra reps, or do your routine while watching your favorite show. The more enjoyable it is, the easier it will be to stick with it. Your future self will thank you!

5. Stay Accountable

A little accountability goes a long way! Use a fitness app to track your progress, set reminders on your phone, or check in with our team before you leave to get a travel-friendly plan in place. We will be your accountability partner, just tell us the best way to check in. We got you!

6. Prioritize Recovery

March Break is the perfect time to focus on self-care. Get enough sleep, stay hydrated, and fuel your body with nutritious food. Recovery is just as important as exercise when it comes to rehab!

7. Listen to Your Body

It’s great to stay on track, but don’t overdo it—especially if you’re more active than usual. Pay attention to how you’re feeling, modify exercises as needed, and give yourself some well-earned rest when necessary.

Keep Moving and Enjoy Your Break!

You don’t have to sacrifice your progress to enjoy March Break. With a little flexibility and planning, you can keep up with your rehab routine while still making the most of your time off. Need a customized plan? Check in with our team before the break to get a travel-friendly routine that works for you! This break does not have to slow your momentum… so do not let it!
